Carbon offsetting
A “ carbon offset” is a credit generated from involvement in a project that results in less carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere than would otherwise occur.
Carbon offsets are typically measured in tons of CO2-equivalents (or 'CO2e'), and are used by individuals and companies alike to mitigate their greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, electricity use, and other sources. For example, an individual might purchase carbon offsets to compensate for the greenhouse gas emissions caused by personal air travel.
Many types of activities can generate carbon offsets, our method being carbon sequestration through reforestation, that absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Through investment in growing trees on deforested land, companies can make a direct and positive step forward to offsetting the emissions caused by the daily activities of their workforce.

Deforestation
Some 13 million hectares of the world's forests are lost due to deforestation each year. The annual net loss of forest area between 2000 and 2005 was 7.3 million hectares (equivalent to the net loss of almost 2% of the world's forests).
Donations
GFI is committed to returning as much deforested land to its natural state. Therefore every hectare of land invested via GFI clients, GFI is committed to allocate the same amount of land to remain as natural forestry.
